Wedding Traditions

Something old, something new 

Something borrowed, something blue 

And a silver sixpence in her shoe. 

Each item in this poem represents a good-luck token for the bride. If she carries all of them on her wedding day, her marriage will be happy. "Something old" symbolizes continuity with the bride's family and the past. "Something new" means optimism and hope for the bride's new life ahead. "Something borrowed" is usually an item from a happily married friend or family member, whose good fortune in marriage is supposed to carry over to the new bride. The borrowed item also reminds the bride that she can depend on her friends and family.As for the colorful item, blue has been connected to weddings for centuries. And finally, a silver sixpence in the bride's shoe represents wealth and financial security. (definition via here)

Something Old
I'll be taking part of my mom's dress (the lace part) and wrapping it around the base of my flowers in my bouquet. I think it'll be a nice touch and something special to add to my day since wearing her dress wouldn't be an option, I'm excited a part of it will be with me.

Something New
I have lots of 'new things', but I think my dress will count for this! I wish I could show you a photo, but I know some people read this who might share with the wrong person and/or Mr. Groom himself could be reading!

Something Borrowed
I'll be borrowing my dear friend and bridesmaid, Britney's earrings that she wore on her wedding day! They match great and will be just as beautiful on my day as they were on hers. Can't wait to wear them!

Something Blue
My shoes will account for this! I've got a rocking pair of Badgley Mischka's that I'll be wearing. I blogged about my decision and I think I decided on the right ones. I need to start breaking them in so I can rock them all night long! I spent more than I wanted to, however, I know it was worth it!

Sixpence in my Shoe
My sister-in-law and one of my Maid of Honors got me my Sixpence for my shoe and gave it to me at our Engagement Party. I'm unsure of how this bad boy will attach to my shoe, but none-the-less it'll be on there!

Back To BootCamp!

Back to life...Back to BootCamp?!

I don't think the song went like that. However, that's what I'm doing! I started BootCamp with Fitness Battalion in January of this year all because I got a Groupon for it. {Sidenote: If you don't know what Groupon is, PLEASE go check it out and get in on the great deals in your area!}  At first it was rough, I mean rough. Those 5:30AM wake up calls suck and so did the frigid cold. The workouts varied but were intense ... some days more than others. But as time went on and the days flew by, it seemed as if it was working. My weight was dropping and so were my pants size. I enjoyed it while it lasted and then my schedule got beyond busy with weddings, work, travel, planning our wedding and everything else. My BootCamp days came to a close in July of this year and well, just started back.

I'm two weeks into going back to BootCamp. Same company, different location (but same awesome people!). While this month I'm only going 2 days a week in morning (versus my 3-4 day a week Jan-May--slacked off after that), I still feel good about myself and think it's working. When January rolls around, I'll be back to 3-4 days a week with the butt kicking group at Fitness Battalion. I'm hoping to see similar results as before so that I can look ultra hot in my wedding dress come April!

While my friend, Patsy, is no longer living in Atlanta full-time (she's in NC in Grad School), my other friend, Nicole Richie...yes, I swear that's her real name, is up to the challenge this time. We carpool and complain about the cold together, suck it up and get out workouts done! It's nice to have someone to be in misery with while working out, yet even better to have someone to be encouraging with and excited when the workout is over and you get to see the results.

So here's to getting back on the workout train and back to getting my butt kicked every morning in the cold (for now!) at 6am!

Holy Moly It's Cold as..... Guacamole?!

How is it Monday again already!?

Holy Moly it's chilly outside! I know we live in the South and all, but a high of 39 for the day is just chilly no matter where you are! Good thing I was up early to take Miss Kona out and was able to put a big ole thing of chili (thanks Julie for the awesome recipe!) in the crockpot so we have something yummy and warm for dinner tonight!

On the note of being chilly and Christmas time rolling around, I finally finished my Christmas shopping this weekend. Took me around 3 hours and a few trips to both the mall and a few other stores, but I'm DONE! I played a little elf and wrapped them all too! I love wrapping gifts! I can't believe that Christmas is only 21 days away. Where in the world has the year 2010 gone. I can't believe how much time flies the older we get! What I really want for Christmas, a time stopper thingy like Hermione had in Harry Potter 3!

Also, I just had a nerve wracking experience and was sick to my tummy, but it's all over and done. The invitations have been approved and I have submitted my list for printing. We're 145 days away and that was a BIG thing to check off the list. My total number of invites stands at 90....a whopping 179 total number of people invited. A little more than my sweet mother wanted, but overall I think we'll be happy with the number that can actually attend. I'll have my invites here in a mere 2-3 weeks and I'll be sure to share just how awesome they turned out! Once they are here I've got to package them, seal them and stamp them all up ...  then wait patiently til March 9th to put them in the mail. I can't wait for RSVP's to start scampering back in! In other wedding news, some sweet friends are throwing us showers at the start of the New Year! We can't wait to celebrate with everyone and get the parties started!

Speaking of marriage and all, Mike and I have been together 2.5 years today! Seems like just yesterday we started dating and now we're on our way to getting hitched! Nothing big planned tonight, just hanging out and keeping warm while playing with Miss Kona.

the train is a comin'

The clock is ticking and the days are shedding away. We're 150 days from THE day. So far there hasn't been much movement on the wedding front. Not at least in the past week since we've been preoccupied playing with Kona, our new poodle princess! I need to get it back in gear cause the Wedding train is a coming and I need to get back on board!

This weekend I'll most likely wrap up our guest list and send it off so that invites can be printed. Once they receive our list we'll have our pretty little invites and all the joys of packing them up and shipping out in about 2-3 weeks. I can't send them til first of March, but I can sure stuff and stamp them before then! Assembly line anyone?!

Our first big planning meeting is on the 14th of this month. We'll be deciding both wedding cake and grooms cake, all flowers and the general design/feel for the day. I'm pretty excited yet almost overwhelmed at the thought of doing this all at once to be honest. I wish I had some images to share, but they are on my other computer. I'll upload them tonight and show what I'm thinking about. Once this meeting is done I'll feel a little more confident about things. I've got my flower ideas and cake ideas set in my head, here's to hoping they fit into budget and will work with the overall theme. In January we head back to Flint Hill to do our catering and beverage stuff and work though the reception stuff. I think this meeting will be slightly easier. Serve good and lots of food and LOTS of booze!!

Up next on the working on things include our Hotel guest bags, Thank You gifts, Seating Chart board (which will be a doozie!) and lots of other small things! I can't believe how fast 2010 has come to a close and 2011 is about to ramp up.

In other news, I started bootcamp again this week. I loved going (minus the cold weather and rain) most of the beginning of this year and thought what a great way to get back into shape so my dress fits just right. Needless to say Tuesdays bootcamp was rainy and Wednesdays was freezing. Two hellacious days to start it off, but it can only get better and I can only get smaller and fitter :)
